THE STORY BEHIND THE SONG
"Less is more" ... as the old saying goes. This is true indeed for many applications in life, and in music, it a very wise truth to have under your hat ( to coin another saying). So many times this approach can rescue an arrangement or bring balance and harmony into a mix which may be heading the wrong way. Mum and I have stood from this viewpoint perhaps more times than most, as our unique partnership means that it is often just her piano and my voice than birth, carry and establish a song. In leading worship, where many teams have a full plethora of instruments, lead vocalists and choir or backing singers, Mum and I often lead with just the flow of piano and voice together partnered with the leading and anointing of the Holy Spirit. So, the excitement of studio project and albums is often the anticipation of hearing songs in their full glory with soundscapes, dynamics, solo instruments taking flight and mood and genre given full makeover - all packaged up with a healthy dose of musical integrity and gifted interpretations. It is always an exciting journey.
However, please step inside this beautiful gem of a song; so simple, so compelling and engaging - so authentic. Anything added just seemed to take away and detract from the pure sentiment. Additionally, the vocal take was honest and barely edited after a single take - it almost seemed to produce itself. So what is the sentiment and why is it so compelling?
This song is a direct expression of gratitude for the sacrifice of Jesus’ blood at Calvary that bought an almost unbelievable and certainly undeserved divine exchange - the filthy rags of sin exchanged for forgiveness, a cleansed heart and robes of righteousness. But what a sacrifice!!! What pain suffering, agony, humiliation and burden!! What horrific death was endured to give us life, buy our freedom and change our eternity!! It really cannot be overstated what Christ's suffering and the shedding of his innocent blood, bought for us..... it has to be the greatest ever gift! A gift that many never accept, never realise and is often rejected.
What a waste of that shed blood!
Share this song if you can with anyone who doesn't know about this amazing gift and who doesn't yet realise that there is freedom from all sin, shame and guilt AND an inheritance of eternal peace in the precious blood of Jesus.
I'm sure people will be touched by the simplicity and sincerity of this beautiful truth. Amen!

LYRICS
Verse 1:
Your blood, your precious blood,
You gave your precious blood,
To wash this guilty heart whiter than snow.
Your robe of righteousness, replaced my filthy rags,
And now this thankful heart is full of gratitude
To the crucified Lamb of God.
Chorus:
As far as the east is from the west,
That’s how far you’ve taken my sin.
As high as the heavens above the earth
How great is you love! How great is your love!
Verse 2:
Your life! Your precious life!
You gave your precious life.
On a rugged cross you died – such sacrifice!
Your cry of victory, changed eternity for me
And now this thankful heart is full of gratitude
to the crucified Lamb of God.
Chorus:
As far as the east is from the west,
That’s how far you’ve taken my sin.
As high as the heavens above the earth
How great is you love! How great is your love!
How great is Your love
How great is Your love
How great is Your love
