THE STORY BEHIND THE SONG

Well you cannot deny the challenge here, one which has been responded to many times in a congregational call to action.......

These are famous words from Isaiah 6, which are equally relevant today as they were way back when they were penned. The people of the world need to know of God's love, but how will they know unless they hear? How will they hear without a personal response from believers; God's people being willing to take the message to the lost outside of the church walls?

This song has indeed been used to touch hearts and commission the Body of Christ to share the Gospel of Jesus - whether at home or on the mission field. As culture has slowly filtered out God and God's word from its consciousness, there is an increasing need to actively communicate the truth, as society largely has no knowledge or understanding of God. The concept has all but disappeared, but there is a harvest waiting on the other side of out obedience to the call.

This beautiful and stirring song encapsulates God's question 'Who shall I send?' And our response, 'Here I am; send me!'

LYRICS

Verse 1:

Give me a heart to plead for the nations

Give me a heart, to weep for the lost

To the ends of the earth,

My mission and purpose

Reaping the harvest, no matter the cost

Verse 2:

Jesus You came, with the heart of a servant

In love and compassion

To save and to bless

To the ends of the earth, Your mission and purpose,

You command ‘Go’, how can I do less?

Chorus:

Who shall I send, who will go?

Here I am, send me!

I won’t withhold, won’t say ‘no’,

For I want the world to know you love them so.

Verse 3:

I do not ask for silver or gold

Only a grace to boldly proclaim

To the ends of the earth, the gospel of Jesus

For there is salvation in no other name.

Chorus:

Who shall I send, who will go?

Here I am, send me!

I won’t withhold, won’t say ‘no’,

For I want the world to know you love them so.

Chorus (repeat)

Who shall I send, who will go?

Here I am, send me!

I won’t withhold, won’t say ‘no’,

For I want the world to know you love them so.
