THE STORY BEHIND THE SONG
It's a thrill to be showcasing this song which is a shift from other Dovetail worship songs, to a prayer for the One New Man, of which the mainstay was written over 30 years ago. This is a significant strand of Dovetail Shalom Ministries and of Dovetail Music, and this is one of many songs that presents God's heart for Israel and His promises for the land and the people.
We wanted to bring this song to you as it is unusually one which features a different lead vocal and which adds Richard Lewis into the writing mix. Richard wrote the middle section about 'Jew and Gentile', thus transforming it from a generic unity song, to one specifically about the One New Man.

Additionally, as studio secrets go, this song has a bit of history. It was originally recorded as a solo song for Huw Priday (guest vocalist on the Lord All Glorious album), but as we are "Dovetail", there was a strong sense that this song should be a collaboration - especially as it was about unity and coming together. So Juliet added her vocal weeks after the original recording, and then added more harmony and extra vocals at the final mix stage on the day of completion.
On top of this interest, Huw Priday recorded this track after a gardening incident with an electric tool, in which he literally could have died. He came not knowing if he could make the notes, but somehow found supernatural impartation to deliver the song with the full power which he does. Once mixed (at this stage without Juliet's vocal) he was unhappy with his final impressive note, so he insisted on coming back to the studio on a one day round trip, just to re-record the last note. Juliet also was hit by obstacles, and recorded the whole album suffering from the effects of a poisonous spider bite on her leg, and contending dead-leg as she recorded. During this recording, she had driven herself from Cornwall to Cardiff and was struggling additionally with standing for any duration. Moreover, as this was not arranged in her key, but Huw's key, she had to overcome the track being much too low for her natural register. It was an uphill struggle all ways round!
Saying all this and bringing you into the backstory, will let you see how much this song was contested. You'll see the obstacles it faced and will enlighten you as to why the finished track is nothing short of a miraculous showcase of God's handiwork. We think the final article is a brilliant testimony to overcoming and an important demonstration of why the message of the One New Man is so important.
We invite you to imagine this song being performed at a venue such as the Royal Albert Hall, where the power of the prayer can really hit the heavens!!!

LYRICS
Verse 1:
Father make us one, one in Your love, one through the blood
Father make us one, one in Your truth, one in Your son
You are our peace, You’ve broken down the dividing wall
Jew and gentile have now been made one,
One new man abiding in Your love
Chorus:
That Your Kingdom may come
Your will be done, Holy Father make us one
